For this project, I worked in a group to build a fun, interactive 2D Pong game. This project
was centered around the theme of "gates." Each group had to incorporate a gate of some sort into their
project idea, so our group decided to incorporate this theme with the game of two-player pong. Each
player was barricaded by a gate and the gates would only open once a player had won two successive games
of pong.
Each player stood beside each other, separated by a curtain. Facing them was a large projector screen, which was projecting an image of the pong game board as well as their opponent at the opposite end of the pong playing field. Players were also standing immediately in front of an elevated track that contained their paddle, which they could move horizontally back and forth on the track. The movement of these paddles moved the paddles in the game. This project involved incorporating a variety of technologies and skills, from 3D graphics programming to Phidgets to image collection through web cameras. I was responsible for programming the gate functionality. The gates were powered by Servo motors.

Teammates: Jenny Chen, Matthew Choi, and Linda Nguyen CS 247A (HCI Design Studio) is a course in the Stanford graduate Computer Science program that emphasizes designing for human use. The course teaches the essentials of a user-centered design methodology, while reaching for new paradigms for interaction. This design studio course is a project-oriented course where students are taught basic design skills such as brainstorming, enactments, idea-sketching, mock-ups, while also being given experience with interaction design tools such as personas and scenarios, models and metaphors, sketch prototypes and user testing.
