| Individual Project Proposal (.pdf) | ||
| For my undergraduate senior project, I worked in a group with IBM Research Almaden. Our senior project involved working with an existing system at IBM called "Fringe." Fringe is a web-based application that was created primarily as a tool for IBM employees to gather background information and relevant occupational information on each other. Moreover, Fringe exists to assist IBM employees in creating social networks within the company as well as to provide them with a common forum for communication. The existing Fringe system is insufficient in meeting these objectives because the interface is slow, cluttered, unintuitive, unreliable, and lacks the functionality to motivate employees to use it. As a team our goal was to design an entirely new and improved web-based GUI for Fringe which would present the existing functionality in a visually appealing and intuitive manner, while also adding functionality to make the user's experience more worthwhile. Our team fulfilled these goals in various ways, which included improving the layout of Fringe data, allowing users to personalize their information, and updating the data more frequently. We also focused on improving the aesthetic appeal of the interface and the visibility of information by emphasizing information that is important, while redirecting less important information. | ||

Teammates: Howard Kao and Jerry Yu CS 194 (Senior Project) is the Senior Project course in the Stanford undergraduate Computer Science program. It is the culmination of a student's undergraduate course work in Computer Science and is an opportunity for students to exhibit the skills they have acquired towards a significant, course-long group project of their choosing. | ||
